This week has been a decent week for getting stuff out there for me!
Cooking
I finally started publishing videos on my Chris Plays Gourmet channel. I had a goal to give a sensible order to content, so I had actually delayed putting out some of the videos until I could get a sensible story line in place for what I was doing, which slowed some things down, but a question from a viewer about not publishing got me moving!
This week, I put out:
- My 2019 Plan on learning to cook
- A Video on Why I’m Using Blue Apron
- Sink Troubles, on why I needed a fixed sink.
- And my first actual cooking video: prepping Spicy Beef Gnocchi, my first Blue Apron meal!
I still have more cooking videos I need to get to, but I also put out a brief update on the cooking blog giving a brief update on cooking. (Status so far: It’s going great!)
Streaming
My official “last day” of streaming was this Friday. After 3 years of regularly scheduled streams, I’m a little sad, but excited to have more time to dedicate to more creative content like my cooking videos! After months of thinking about it, I actually recorded my final goodbye video in the confessional-style recording space I set up in my basement, and I’m excited to use this space for more creative video efforts as well. I was really happy to have a lot of the “crew” of viewers come out and wish me a friendly goodbye, and I really appreciated all the well-wishes I got on making new content! Already, I’m feeling more energy to retake that time I was using for streaming and using it to create awesome things!
Other Blog Posts
In addition to my cooking and streaming, I wrote two other blog posts that I’m proud of this week:
- Out of Control: Twitter’s Accidental Social Spaces, on how Twitter accidentally evolved social spaces that have turned into tools for harassment with none of the tools to combat it.
- Content Access Controls and How They Influence Platform Usage - This is just a basic piece walking through the evolution of the private, public, friends only style of content access controls, written more to remind myself of the history than to communicate anything in particular.
Coming Week
This week, I hope to have at least one more video with actual cooking in it. I’m also going to work on collecting footage for a video about the Little Digger, my favorite 3D print ever, for Chris Produces Gadgets, though I doubt that I’ll get around to publishing that this week.
I’m also starting back up with German classes, continuing with A1.2 at the Goethe-Institut here in Boston, and this Saturday will be attending the second anniversary show of Smoke and Shadows, a combination burlesque+variety show, so it’ll be a busy week for me!
Video recommendation of the week: Carlos Maza’s latest episode of Strikethrough, How Trump wins press conferences, is both entertaining and informative!
I hope everyone has a great week, and you’ll hear from me again next Sunday!
